The specialization in Gender Studies focuses on gender as a system of inequality that is socially constructed. Emphasis is on gender inequality cross-culturally as well as in the United States. Students in this specialization become knowledgeable about sociological, feminist and social psychological theories of gender inequality; the dynamics of gender inequality in various institutions including the economy, the family, and the state; individual and interactive aspects of gender relations; the interplay of gender with race and class; and the relational construction of masculinities and femininities. |
