Toi Carter

Degrees:
University of Southern Mississippi, BA, Sociology, 2005

Awards:
Graduate Division Fellowship, University of California, Riverside, 2005

Research Areas:
Gender and Sexuality, Race and Class Inequality

Biography:
I am interested in the intersections of gender, sexuality, class, and race. I am particularly interested in adolescence and coming of age as it is experienced at those intersections. Past research was ethnographic in nature and focused on beauty as it was defined and experienced by a group of adolescent African American girls who participated in an after school delinquency prevention program. In the future, I would like to continue studying the politics of beauty and sexuality as they intersect with race, class, and gender.
