Biography:
Jesse's research focuses on issues of mental health among gangs, immigrants, and families, which include family attitudes and social support, acculturative stress, substance abuse, and the determinants of violence and discrimination. Since arriving at UCR, he has worked on the Parent and Youth Study under the guidance of Dr. Scott Coltrane. Jesse has also worked closely with Dr. Alfredo Mirandé who is mentoring him over the duration of the American Sociological Association Minority Fellowship . As a product of Pitzer College, Jesse is committed to social responsibility, and is an advocate for civic engagement through participatory action research and service learning. Jesse is also an ardent proponent of the inseparability of academics and activism.
