Biography:
Ms. Osborn's research interests are methodology, emotions, and identity in social psychology. Her past research sought to advance identity theory by examining how emotions from a prior social interaction interact with the current context to influence emotions. Ms. Osborn's dissertation research focuses on the theoretical processes and social circumstances surrounding identity change. She conceptualizes gender as both identity and status, ethnicity as both identity and status, and student as both identity and status. She then examines how the social structural positions associated with these identities (namely sex as male or female, racial/ethnic category, and student grade level) are related to status and resources and how these influence identity change.
