Biography:
Christopher Schmitt's dissertation research will focus on the occurrence of temporary, or episodic communities. In particular, his work will include demonstrating the importance of this topic by using both historical instances (Champagne Fairs) as well as contemporary examples of episodic communities such as the Oregon Country Fair, Burning Man Festival, etc. Future work will include turning this research into a book that offers an alternative approach to current social movement theorizing, and co-authoring a children's book building on the Cloning Cultures project that addressed issues surrounding assisted reproductive technologies.
